The Cake Lady: A-Tisket, A-Tasket, It's an Easter Basket!

I'm so excited to share another awesome post from my good friend The Cake Lady on decorating Easter cupcakes with your kids.  Cherish all those special memories with your family this weekend. Happy Easter from the Bungalow!! Enjoy!

Easter is such a wonderful time! Everyone enjoys a basket full of goodies!
Grab some friends, family, or the kiddos and enjoy some quality baking time together!

Here is a very simple little Easter treat that will brighten up anyone's day!

Items you will need:
Vanilla cupcakes
Vanilla frosting
Green food coloring
Twizzler sour twists( I found them at Albertson's) or any licorice
Tooth picks
Jelly beans or chocolate eggs

Dye the frosting green and frost the cupcake. You have the option to hold the knife, flat side down, and pull up quickly to make the frosting spiky (like grass).

Now you will need to cut your Twizzlers in half. You will insert a tooth pick into either end of each Twizzler half.

Now, you will put your eggs in your basket. 5-6 jelly beans fit just right. Finally, take your Twizzler half and insert the tooth pick ends into the cupcake for the handle.

These cupcakes are truly so simple. I had 1st graders, 3rd graders, and 4th graders all make them today at my children's school! They will certainly brighten up any Easter festivities you have planned!

The Cake Lady: Happy Harvest

The Cake Lady Mary is back with some fun cupcakes for you decorate for this Fall Season with your children. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Cupcakes

It is Fall and although it is supposed to reach 88 degrees today, I am determined to jump into Fall full force. With Fall comes everything pumpkin…the pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, pumpkin pie and now you may add pumpkin cupcakes to your list of must haves for Fall!

Follow these simple steps…there are no “tricks” just fabulous “treats” when you finish!

You will need the following items from your grocery store or craft store:
Vanilla cupcakes (I used a box mix)
Vanilla frosting
Orange sugar sprinkles
Orange ready to use frosting with a round tip
Chocolate candies
Green taffy
Lollipop stick or skewer stick

Frost the cupcakes with the vanilla frosting. Turn the frosted cupcake upside down and gently dip into orange sugar sprinkles poured into a bowl. Be sure to cover ALL the frosting with sprinkles.

Use the lollipop stick to make lines in the top of the cupcake as seen above.
Fill the lines with the ready-made frosting with a round tip.

Time for the treats! Open up a chocolate candy and form it with your fingers into a stem like shape. Make the stem extra long as this part will be pushed into the cupcake.

Place the stem into the top of your pumpkin!

Open up a green taffy and pull off a small piece. Shape into a leaf. Use the back of a knife to put a line down the center of your leaf. Place the leaf on the cupcake next to the stem. (I used the lollipop stick to help push the leaf into the cupcake)

You now have a delicious treat to take to any Fall event! Make them alone or with the kids! Happy Fall everyone!

The CAKE LADY: End of Summer Treat for the kids

I'm so excited for one of my best friend's Mary Thompson to guest write for us!! She started baking for me when she designed our Beach Bungalow Designs grand opening cake. She has baked her way through all my most major parties or memories since then. I just cherish her friendship and lean on her for her wisdom since she is an amazing mom. I hope you enjoy her posts on unique cupcakes ideas for you and your kids to do at home together...

{Beach Bungalow Designs Grand Opening Cake}

My name is Mary, and I absolutely love cupcakes. I have been finding fun, new ways to decorate cupcakes for over 12 years. I started when my first born was only a few months old. I took her with me to a cake decorating class in her baby carrier. I needed something creative to do and baking was my answer! I now have 4 amazing children who continue to inspire all my designs and keep me excited about cupcakes. My husband of over 14 years claims the smell of cupcakes in the oven is still something he enjoys(even though there aren't always extras for him to eat). I am so excited Tritia asked me to share my love with all of you on her blog. I personally feel that  whether you are looking for something fun to do with your kids in the kitchen, or need a creative outlet while baby is sleeping, cupcakes are the answer!

S'MORE
Summer is coming to an end. This means less trips to the beach and more time inside. But this doesn't mean you have to say good-bye to one of my all-time favorite summer treats...the S'MORE.
Here is a simple spin on the classic treat so you may enjoy it anytime without the need of a beach bonfire!

Just make any chocolate cupcakes that you wish. A simple box mix will work perfect!
Grab some marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate frosting to get started!

Frost the cupcakes with the chocolate frosting.

You will need to put the graham crackers in a sandwich bag and smash them with a spoon(great job for any young helpers).

Once smashed, put the crackers in a bowl. Holding the cupcake sideways, gently roll the edges into the cracker, leaving the top center of the cupcake cracker free.

Now you will slice your marshmallows in half, adding one half to the center of each cupcake.
At this point you are welcome to be done, however, you have the option of adding a little chocolate syrup to the top of the marshmallow for an extra punch of flavor!

Now the only thing left to do is eat and enjoy! I know my kids and I did!

Stay Tuned... Mary will have some more ideas for us throughout the year!!
