A Tried & True Nautical Theme Get's a Modern Twist

When it comes to designing a nautical themed room, it can be easy to go a little overboard...Get it?
Just a little joke to start off our latest post but also a true statement!
For this little boy's nursery I made sure my client had plenty of ocean themed accessories and items in the room, but also gave it a fun twist with unexpected prints and pops of oranges and reds!

New Arrivals has recently come out with some amazing and bright chevron, polka dot and large stripe prints that couldn't be more perfect for this project.

Next up:  finding classic, clean-lined furniture that echoed my client's style.
Newport Cottages' Panel crib was obvious choice number one, especially because it can be stained to the perfect shade of brown my client desires. Check out the great color on the one here at the Beach Bungalow store:

The dresser was another quick pick, Newport's double dresser has tons of storage and can be stained to match the crib.

For a home run in keeping with our theme and adding another eye-catching storage element into the room, the rowboat bookcase!
(Newport Cottages)
Here's another shot of the bookcase from Chase's Room installation a few month's back; one of my favorite thing's about this bookcase is that even though it's an unusual shape, you still have plenty of space for books and toy storage.
(Beach Bungalow Designs)
For the rug I wanted something soft and fun with a pop of bright color. This one was absolutely on target!
(The Rug Market)

As far as artwork was concerned, there were plenty of different pieces to choose from. We finally narrowed it down to these selections all from Oopsy Daisy Artwork:

Loving all the different background patterns and shades of orange, red and blue!

I can't wait to see the final result of this modern nautical nursery! It's always an adventure deciding which direction the design of the room will take. Is there a new design scheme or look you've always wanted to try? Come on down to the Bungalow and let's test it out!

Stephanie really wanted an amazing, personalized round crib and Villa Bella furniture had just the right look.
By taking a look at some of the pieces available, we were able to create her custom bedding with all the special touches she loves.

The result was a wonderfully soft and opulent one-of-a-kind piece:

No detail went left untouched with this special room, I love how the small ruffle on the custom bumper gives it that little extra something for Stephanie and her little girl to enjoy.
(Beach Bungalow Designs Custom Bedding)
Stephanie already owned the appropriate furniture, all we needed to do was paint her Bratt Decor pieces the perfect shade of fresh white and add some unique diamond detail knobs. We also ordered a custom Villa Bella tray for the changer.

Some of my favorite features of this room are the chair and ottoman, the raw pink silk with the contrasting floral ruffle gave it a wonderfully unique look. And the rosettes sewn to the pillow are the perfect final, feminine touch.

Just a few more moments I can't get enough of...

Another fantastic project completed just in time for Stephanie to welcome her baby girl.
There were many moving parts to this sweet room and Stephanie couldn't be happier with the end result.

Focus on Flooring

Lately we've been branching out from kid's rooms to the entire home, and the focus this week has been flooring. My client Jeri is looking for a flooring that will complement her beautiful exposed wood ceilings and be comfortable enough for her four kid's to run around on. She is also in need of a creative design for her foyer, check out these inspiration photos to see which direction we are heading:

After checking out a few amazing flooring showrooms around town, we finally narrowed it down to natural stone tile or a solid or engineered wood floor with a warm stain.

We loved the look of this plank flooring in the store.

This unique hardwood is definitely a favorite, and its rich tones matched Jeri's exposed wood ceilings.

Stone tiles were Jeri's number one pick, and we all loved the way the variation in the tile matched the ceilings.  The herringbone effect was really unique and could be perfect for her entry way.  Not to mention, stone tile is extremely durable and could easily be used in heavy-traffic areas, including the kitchen, within Jeri's home.

This flagstone tile was a top choice. We liked the angles of the cuts in the stone to contrast against
the linear beams of her ceiling.

As was this gorgeous honed Travertine. It came in a few different colors, and would blend with whatever style direction Jeri's home takes. Jeri did not want to lay stone in the "versailles" pattern above but loved the color and feeling of the stone. Luckily for us, it is available in different sizes.

While floor shopping, we also came across some great cabinetry inspiration. The dark grey inset into the lighter grey wood paneling really complemented all types of stone flooring. We may be moving towards this direction in her kitchen to give her cabinets a new fresh feeling!

As for an entry way inspiration, a textured wall would be the perfect focal point for Jeri's foyer.
Or, her foyer wall is definitely large enough to support some kind of water feature:

This is such an exciting project, especially since Jeri's flooring choice will really help us decide what direction her overall home's style will be. Floor shopping is no easy job, especially with so many different options out there, if you're looking for a little help come visit us over at the Bungalow:)

Avery Paris: Classic Pink and Grey Nursery with a Twist!

Untitled #3

We've got so many new, exciting home projects going on at the Bungalow, it felt extra special to get back to basics with a classic pink and grey nursery for first time parents Natalie and Ardo:)

The pink and grey combo might be classic favorite, but Avery Paris' parents wanted their nursery to have sleek, clean lines and simple romantic twist!

For inspiration, we drew from a favorite nursery for Stacey from the Beach Bungalow files:
(Beach Bungalow Designs)
Natalie loves Kourtney Kardashian's new nursery and Serena & Lily's Collette bedding collection was another great addition to the room.
(People.com)

(Serena & Lily)
Ardo was adamant about some very special lighting for the space, so we found an amazing 5-light chandelier from Maura Daniel to illuminate the room in more ways than one!
(Maura Daniel Lighting)
The room itself is on the smaller size, but boasts a large closet. This piece from Newport Cottages can easily be customized to do double duty as a changer for now, and the perfect size dresser as Avery grows.
(Newport Cottages Furniture)
Simple clean lined pieces, like Avery's crib and a bookcase from Land of Nod are easily dressed up with fun fabrics from New Arrivals and great accessories. Check back on the blog soon for the before and after!
As always, we are here at the Bungalow, come on over and we'll help you plan your dream nursery!

Extra Storage Space to Out Of This World Playroom!

garchie playroom
Everyone's favorite Grandma is at it again! Janelle's latest project is to transform her unused garage space into an incredible art and science themed playroom for her two granddaughters, Taylor and Cameron.
We took inspiration from this awesome bedroom, what a fun color scheme!
(Colombini Casa Kid's)

Janelle  is adding some custom built-in cabinets to the garage area, so we choose a bright orange chevron rug  that will be comfortable for the girls and a perfect pattern for the room.
(Rug Market)
These two-tone teak furniture sets are too cute and provide plenty of space for art projects!
(The Land of Nod)

Fun details for the walls include wooden letters that spell out "ART & SCIENCE", red-orange flower decals and these sweet butterfly cable systems to display artwork.
(Pottery Barn Kids)
The girls will no doubt love spending time in here with Grandma, so we ordered custom growth charts for each child.

Bold Blues & Bright Pinks for Sweet Claire & Katherine Grace

It's finally time to show off our last double installation of 2013! A big girl room with two adorable twin beds for Claire, and a bold navy and pink nursery for her new sister Katherine.
(Beach Bungalow Designs custom bedding)
There's nothing cuter than these Beverly Collection twin beds from Newport Cottages in blue with white detail! Except maybe that Claire requested a matching monogram pillow for her baby sister:)

From the striped bed skirts, to the ribboned duvets, to the brightly hued fabrics - there's no shortage on fun colors in this big girl room!
(Beach Bungalow Designs custom drapery & Newport Cottages)
You can never have too much pink, and this custom cornice board and drapery ties everything in perfectly. Newport's Celine bookcase echoes the scalloped edge of the cornice and provides plenty of storage for Claire's books and toys.

The pale yellow wall color is one of my favorites, and this dresser does double duty as an extra changer.
