Tis the Season

{The Burns/Gustine Family 2012}

Tis the season to give thanks for all our blessings! This is my favorite time of year where we celebrate all our family traditions. This weekend begins our traditions- Parade of Holiday lights, Candlelight Christmas Eve service, visits from Santa aka Papa:), present exchanges, holiday food, Santa Hunt hosted by Papa and watching my children's eyes light up during every moment. I wanted to take a moment and thank all our customers this year for choosing us to help you decorate (in my mind) the most special place in your home. My mom and I have really enjoyed the exciting projects that have come to us and are looking forward to a new year with new and old customers. Our wish and prayer is for you and your family to have a very blessed 2013. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from our Bungalow to yours...

Thankful Heart

{Caden(5) and Finley (2)}
It is with a thankful heart that I write my post today. I am sitting at my store and realizing that in this time of Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be grateful for. This year has been a year of many ups and downs but the Lord is teaching me to be thankful in the midst of any obstacle or victory in my life. The key for me is to concentrate on the little things that I take for granted. Here is my list that I have had on my heart..

1) Thankful for my husband who is a huge support in my life. Without him, NONE of this could happen. He is a husband, dad, mom, cook, cleaner, laundry finisher, store owner, tech support and engineer all in one.

{Celebrating 10 years in January}

 2) Thankful for HEALTHY children that are amazing to me. I LOVE every second with them and think that God gave me the exact children I needed to mother. Caden is my first born and little boy that tells me sometimes the correct way to behave:) He is a little cuddler and loves his mommy. AND Miss Finley is a joy to be around and soooo sweet. She is a sunshine in my life and my little girl.

3) Thankful for my MOM and Dad. They have blessed me with this opportunity to have this precious store. What many of you don't know is my dad fronted all the money to start this store 8 years ago. I know in my heart that I will repay him for generosity but I don't tell him enough in the ups and downs of running my own business that I love it every day!! Secondly, my mom works at Beach Bungalow 5 days a week and helps me with my kids FOR FREE. A gift that is beyond words.. Never know how to tell her thank you. She is my best friend enough said:)

4) Thankful for special friends and extended family. It is rare to feel like you are always surrounded by people that love you. I have many friends that I am grateful for that I count on for laughter, tears and heartfelt conversations. You know who you are and what you mean to me. My brother, sister-in-law and my in-laws have been big supporters and I'm grateful for their constant texts, emails and phone calls of encouragement..

5) Thankful for my relationship with the Lord. Grateful that I hear HIS voice in my life and I know that I am walking towards His path for my life. I have felt a huge challenge this year towards helping others. I think big things are ahead and I can't wait share those blessings. My faith is everything to me and I hope those that know me understand that:)

There are many more things that I have been blessed with but this Thanksgiving this is the list that was on my heart. I hope this challenged you to grab some paper and begin on yours. Happy Thanksgiving from the Bungalow!

Just in!! New Furniture at the Bungalow

{Beverly Collection from Newport Cottages}

We just discovered some new pieces to add to our selection at the Bungalow.. I am seeing a theme in all the pieces: Upholstery Tufting on the beds and chic shapes on the dressers.  I am loving these fun finds!!

They also have an option without upholstery! I love the idea of the mint trim for a gender neutral nursery. It is available to be customized in any color combination.

These new pieces from Art for Kids are great for an older girl's room. I think they could work long term through the teen years.

 An upholstered daybed is a great toddler option. I am thinking about using a piece like this in Fin's big girl room. The soft edges make it easy for them to transition with their new found freedom! My little climber is going to need something like this..

Newport Cottages: A true family business!

House Consultations: What a Privilege!

                         How do you get a room to look like this???

{BEACH BUNGALOW DESIGNS}

                                             From this...???

{BEFORE}

If your planning on using our service, the magical answer is a house consultation. We come out to your house, we measure and plan in the actual space giving us a map for the room for our next store presentation.
There is something different about spacial planning for me being in the room versus client's bringing pictures to the store with rough sketches. Sometimes when I walk into rooms for installations without being in the room previously, I think how are we going to fit all this?? or do we have enough to fill the space??

{BEFORE}

{AFTER Beach Bungalow Designs}

I also use house consultations to see if we can use any of the items from the old room in the new room. Many clients want to scrap everything and get all new BUT there sometimes are pieces that can work with our new concept that are real gems! We reused this great nightstand and vintage Barbie pictures that my client had already for her girl's room above. It gives my client's a great satisfaction to work with things that they had previously and make them fit in my new design.

My mom always told me that it is a privilege that someone invites you into their home. I always view my visits this way.. so for all of you that have invited me in.. THANK YOU!!

The Heart of a Family business!

{Caden}
Tomorrow my oldest Caden turns five! The thought of him turning five made me think of all our memories we have made together in the store. I love owning my little family business and being able to bring my kids to work 3 days a week. When I first got pregnant with Caden, I decided that I would set up a little nursery in the back room and bring him to work with me. If you have to work and own your business, why not bring your kids??? WAY easier said than done and not everyone has their mom to help full time. BUT Caden grew up in the store and we make it work!!

{Caden at the store when he was 6 months}

 He crawled, walked and rode a scooter for the first time at the store. He loves coming here and now Finley 2 years later we can at least contain her inside for an hour. We do have a babysitter because its harder with two but we miss them when they aren't here. There are days that it is literally insane between phone calls, clients appointments and kids needing a snack or having to go potty but I love every minute. Mostly I count myself blessed that I get to parent my kids at work, all while living my dream of being a designer.

{Caden at 3 months with my mom at the store while I'm in an appointment}

{My dad and the kids }

This is a true family business. Seth is constantly tackling every lighting and mechanical problem, my brother is updating the website, my dad comes to help in the afternoons with the kids and gives me words of encouragement, my sister-in-law gives me online marketing strategies, and my mom does just  about everything. This system would certainly fall apart without her and I'm truly grateful that she helps me.

{Snack time!}

Even though I work a lot of hours, even though there are adversities and difficult days, even though I do get tired, I wouldn't trade it! I would like to say a special thanks to you for letting me have this luxury. I know sometimes we make it hard on our clients to pick up items during certain hours because Finley is taking her 3 hour nap in our back room. I know sometimes my kids aren't perfect and they might melt down in the middle of an appointment. I have never felt more acceptance than from you understanding what I'm trying to do!! So thank you for helping me make it work. I know its going to be quiet in a couple of years when they are both in school full time so right now I treasure every manic day that we have...

Nautically Inspired

{Beach Bungalow Designs Showroom}

 We just remodeled a new venue in our store to reflect a nautical look. I was inspired by all the fashion that has been coming out this summer in navy and khaki. I love the color combination together! Once the fabrics were selected, Lauren painted the background wall as aged bead board with a rope border. We use the dark blue color panel to allow the anchor really stand out against the washed beachy background.

{Newport Cottages Taylor Changing Table}

  I found these cute bookends to bring a nautical touch to the dresser. My mom found the lamp that complented all our colors but wasn't overly themed. The picture frames brought in the different blue and khaki from the bedding. All pieces are available in different color schemes and themes to match any room styling.

{Beach Bungalow Designs Custom Bedding and Glider}

   Lauren paint nautical flags which we strung on rope over the crib. The flags actually spell put Caden( my son's name).  Don't be afraid to add new colors in that aren't in your bedding but compliment the scheme of the room! The crib bedding is a fresh gingham check in a sky blue/ khaki and the crib skirt is a khaki/blue ticking that is soft but masculine. The panel crib is our largest selling crib for its classic lines and gender neutral look. It is paired with the Taylor changing table which is very functional for storage. The top 3 drawers are deep enough for lotions and diapers. As your child grows it is a perfect transition,  the changing top lifts off and you can repurpose the drawers for socks and undergarments.

{Beach Bungalow Designs Custom Bedding}

The big boy bed is a island style look that I used for my own sons room. It's from Country Cottage and they have a lot of differently designed case pieces that compliment it. I feel the style of bed is timeless and could even work in a guest room once your child is gone to college. The fabrics we used on the bed are a perfect mix of plaids and stripes that can fit with any theme. You could pair this bedding with a transportation, surf, sports or in this instance nautical! We finished off the bedding with a fun modern pillow from Oilio designs.

{Canvas by Lauren Heinle Murals}

My very favorite thing from this venue is this custom canvas by Lauren. It's a vintage diver helmet inspired by the fabrics on the bed. I love the modern touch it adds to a rather classic look that we have pulled together. Stop on by the Bungalow if you are in town to see this new space in person!
